Durban Super Giants win their first game of the Season

In the first over of the game, Kyle Mayers clean bowled Dewald Brevis with a blistering inswinging yorker. It provided the framework for Durban Super Giants’ opening SA20 triumph, a five-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians Cape Town at Newlands. Prenelan Subrayen dismissed both Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran, giving the Super Giants, who chose to bowl, an early 45/4 lead over their opponents.

Subrayen and Maharaj, two spinners, were successful in controlling the scoring rate and didn’t allow a single boundary in six straight overs. A late charge was started when Grant Roelofsen (52) and George Linde (33) hammered 36 off the final two spin overs. After their 60-run partnership, Delano Potgieter struck three sixes in his 11-ball 25, pushing the total above 152, which seemed unlikely at 65/4 after 12 overs.

Despite the strong comeback, MI’s total was still far from upsetting the Super Giants. And it was evident as the chase got underway as Mayers and captain Quinton de Kock contributed 35 runs in just under four overs. After the PowerPlay, the former was dismissed for a quick 34, but Heinrich Klaasen made a swift 36, and Keemo Paul finished off the chase in just 17 overs with three sixes. However, MI Cape Town refrained from awarding a Bonus Point to their guests.
