Rain Ruins Friday

Both the Friday SA20 2023 matches between the Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals at the Wanderers and those between the Durban Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape were postponed due to persistent rains following a severe downpour.

To the Wanderers, where the Royals had amassed 131/4 after being given the first turn at bat, only 15 overs were allotted. Before the England captain left, the English opening duo of Jason Roy (61 off 42 balls) and Jos Buttler (23 off 11 balls) laid the foundation with a blazing 53-run partnership in just 3.3 overs. Romario Shepherd was able to finish Roy’s time at the crease on the last ball of the 15th over, but the rain began to fall shortly after Roy reached fifty and continued his onslaught. Due to the persistent rain, the referees were never able to restart the game, and the two teams shared the points evenly. Only 5.2 overs could be bowled at Kingsmead in Durban later that night when rain called off a second straight game. Reece Topley, a left-arm seamer from England, also excelled with the bat, removing Temba Bavuma and Jordan Hermann for golden ducks in quick succession in his first over. However, Adam Rossington was coasting at the other end with 35 runs remaining after just 18 balls when bad weather came in.

Due to the split points, Paarl Royals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape are now levels on 19 points apiece, but second and third respectively following their last league matches. Joburg Super Kings are now in fourth place with 18 points, but they have one more match remaining than the other two. Have a look at the points table.
