In a doubleheader on Sunday, Roelof van der Merwe’s bowling performance of 6 for 20—the highest in the tournament—helped Sunrisers Eastern Cape destroy Durban Super Giants by 124 runs. He was the master wrecker, taking six to destroy DSG for only 86 following a brilliant batting display from his team earlier in which both openers hit fifty-plus scores to lay the foundation for their intimidating total of 210/2.
In less than nine overs, Adam Rossington and Jordan Hermann put up a century opening stand. The former batted aggressively, scoring 72 in just 30 balls, including 10 boundaries and four sixes, before being run out. Hermann scored 59 off 44 balls, which featured nine boundaries and a six, and added 68 runs with captain Aiden Markram’s help (44* off 34). Tristan Stubbs advanced the attack with a strike rate of more than 200, landing a pair of ferocious punches at the very end of his unbroken run of 27 off 13 to help his team reach an impressive 210/2.
In response, Van der Merwe went through the Durban Super Giants lineup and defeated them for 86. Wiaan Mulder’s 29 in 15 balls and Keshav Maharaj’s meaningless 12 at the end, which was the only other score in double digits, were their only two double-digit scores.
