Through disciplined bowling, Sunrisers Eastern Cape won their third match in a row and moved up to second place in the SA20 standings. Paarl Royal were held to just 127 for 7. They then won by five wickets by rather easily chasing that total down.
When the Paarl Royals were asked to bat first, they were in trouble right away because only 18 runs had been scored by the third over when both Jason Roy and Jos Buttler were dismissed. With the help of Corbin Bosch, Wihan Lubbe, who had previously hit a half-century for his team, tried to rapidly resuscitate the innings, but they were only successful up until the eighth over. Brydon Carse, a right-arm pacer, outdueled Lubbe and left the home team vulnerable to a middle-overs stumble. They stumbled, going from 58 for 2 in the eighth over to 96 for 7 in the sixteenth. Aiden Markram and Roelof van der Merwe, a spin-duo that took two wickets apiece while only giving up 21 runs in four overs, caused the damage. This resulted in Royals reaching a subpar total in 20 overs.
In the opening four overs, Adam Rossington and Jordan Hermann scored 34 runs, but Lungi Ngidi took two wickets in quick succession to give his team a chance to fight back. However, Hermann rejected that attempt while being accompanied by Markram, who produced a crucial run-a-ball 23. The two scored 57 more runs, bringing their club one step closer to an easy triumph. When the team was 93 for 5, Marco Jansen (21* off 22) and Tristan Stubbs (18* off 12) led the way to victory after Bjorn Fortuin got three wickets in the same over (the 13th).
