Confirmed exciting Betway SA20 wild card signings lineup

As final squads are determined, teams look for a balance of youth and experience.

Friday, December 30th: For the first competition, which will begin on January 10, 2023, all six Betway SA20 teams have revealed an intriguing lineup of wild card picks.

Following the conclusion of the first auction, the six Betway SA20 franchise teams were given the chance to add a wild card player to their rosters. Before the 31 December deadline, teams could sign a South African or an international player.

Four of the teams chose cricketers with South African roots, indicating the importance of finding players who are familiar with the local circumstances.

MI Jofra Archer, who won the 2019 World Cup, will make his League debut against Paarl Royals at Newlands after Cape Town broke the mould by signing him. Durban’s Super Giants have signed mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya from Sri Lanka.

The Proteas Men’s all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo, who will be joining his former teammate JP Duminy’s Paarl Royals squad at Boland Park, is the highlight of the local talent. He is 26 years old.

Phehlukwayo is a seasoned member of the international cricket team who has represented the Proteas in 74 ODIs, 38 T20 Internationals, and four Test matches. He is especially skilled with the ball, and the conditions in Paarl are a perfect fit for his skill set, which also includes a well-disguised slower ball.

By bringing former Proteas international spinner Aaron Phangiso back to the Wanderers, the Joburg Super Kings have also chosen a seasoned competitor. Phangiso, who represented the Proteas in 21 ODIs and 16 T20 Internationals, is one of the most frugal spinners in the game’s shortest format with an economy of just 7.77.

With Senuran Muthusamy joining the Pretoria Capitals team, there has been a strong emphasis on spin. Muthusamy participated in two Test matches for South Africa and is a valuable lower-order hitter.

The outstanding Jordan Hermann was acquired by the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, continuing their commitment in emerging talent. The 21-year-old has had an outstanding season and is familiar with the St. George’s Park field.
